"How much does a bus duct cost?" is the first question every buyer asks, and the one question no honest manufacturer can answer with a single number. Two ducts that look identical in a photo can differ in price by a factor of three. Here is what actually moves the number, with the indicative ranges we see in real quotations, so you can sanity-check whatever lands in your inbox.

European and American brands typically land at two to three times these figures for comparable ratings, which is the main reason international contractors price Chinese factories in the first place. The IEC 61439-6 standard is the same either way. What you pay the premium for is brand, local stock and local service, and sometimes that premium is genuinely worth it.
Why two quotes for the same drawing can differ wildly
When we lose a tender on price, we usually know why. The cheaper quote is often hiding one of these:
Thinner busbars. A duct sold as 2000A with undersized bars will pass a visual inspection and fail a temperature rise test. Ask for the bar cross-section and the IEC 61439-6 temperature rise report. Tin plating versus bare copper at the joints. Plating costs money and prevents the slow oxidation that overheats joints ten years later. Insulation class. Class B (130°C) material is cheaper than class F (155°C). Both are legal; only one gives you thermal margin. Missing accessories. Hangers, joint kits, end flanges and fire barriers quietly left out of the quote, then billed as extras later.
A quote that is 30 percent below everyone else is not a bargain. It is a different product wearing the same name.
What a serious quotation includes
Before you compare totals, check that each quote states the same things: conductor material and cross-section, insulation class, IP rating including the joints, short-circuit withstand rating, the standard it complies with, what fittings and accessories are included, packing for export, and the quote validity period. If any of those lines are missing, you are not comparing quotes. You are comparing guesses.
A worked example, with real numbers
Take a small factory project: 60 meters of 1600A duct from transformer to main switchboard, copper, IP54, with four elbows, one end feed flange and three meters of 400A plug-in branch with two tap-off boxes. The straight run at 1600A copper lands around USD 170 to 260 per meter, so call it USD 10,000 to 15,000 for the duct itself. The four elbows add perhaps USD 1,500 to 2,500. The flange, the branch duct and the two boxes add another USD 1,000 to 2,000. Export packing and sea freight to most ports: USD 800 to 1,500. Total budget: roughly USD 13,000 to 21,000 delivered, before installation. If a quote for that bill of quantities comes back at USD 8,000, something on the spec sheet has been quietly thinned down.
How to get an accurate price within a day
The fastest way to a real number is to send three things: your single-line diagram with the current ratings marked, a layout drawing or a simple sketch with lengths, levels and the position of every elbow and tap-off, and the site conditions, meaning indoor or outdoor, ambient temperature and any dust or water exposure. With those, any competent manufacturer can return a priced bill of quantities in 24 to 48 hours. Without them, expect a number padded with safety margin, because the supplier is pricing your uncertainty as well as your duct.
